Do We Have All Of The Bible?

When Jesus was living, the "scriptures" to which He often referred to were the Old Testament books (Genesis to Malachi) -- (Matthew 21:42; 22:29; Mark 12:24; Luke 24:27; John 5:39). It was originally written in the Hebrew language, and eventually translated into the Greek language about 200 years before His birth. Jesus regarded this old book to be complete.

Paul wrote to Timothy, "From a babe thou hast known the sacred writings (holy scriptures -- KJV) which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:15). This passage combined the Old Testament with New Testament teaching and writing, which leads to faith in Christ. Paul continued in the next verse. "Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness. That the man of God may be complete, furnished competely unto every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16). Note the attributes of completeness.

Peter spoke with confidence when he said, "...Sing that his divine power hath he granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue" (2 Peter 1:3). Peter's usage of the words, "all things" denote the same attribute of completeness. If one has all things -- he lacks for nothing. (Also consider Jude's statement in vs. 3 -- "once for all delivered".)

Do we have all of the Bible? Is it complete? The issue rests primarily upon our confidence or faith in God to oversee and protect His written revelation to mankind. Note the Divine promise, "For, all flesh is as grass, and all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower falleth: But the word of the Lord abideth forever. And this is the word of good tidings which was preached unto you" (1 Peter 1:24-25). Our confidence must remain firm in the Divine promise.
