"The Reformation" was a religious movement of the 1500's that led to protestantism. It began in 1517 when Martin Luther, a German monk, protested certain practices of the Roman Catholic Church, and attempted to "reform" it. The Christians who meet on Main Street in Huntington call for more than reformation, we desire restoration. Our intent is to go beyond the apostasy of the
Catholic Church and restore the New Testament atter (
"Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me..." 2 Timothy 1:13). We do not consider ourselves to be a denomination (one of many), but rather the New Testament church restored. Please consider the following facts:
"For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 3:11)
- The Lutheran Church was established in 1531 upon Martin Luther's Augsburg Confession.
- The Church of England (Episcopal Church) was founded by King Henry VIII in 1534.
- John Calvin began The Presbyterian Church in 1559.
- The first Baptist Church was established by John Smyth in the year 1607.
- The Methodist Church began as a college club in 1729, founded by John and Charles Wesley.
- Joseph Smith founded the Latter Day Saints Church (Mormon) in the year 1830.
- Jesus Christ established His church on the first pentecost following His resurrection, circa 33 AD (Acts 2; Matthew 16:18).
Who established the church of which you are a member? Man or God? Let's put away all of the man made creeds and organizations, and return to the Bible for our simple pattern.
