What Is A Gospel Meeting?

Although the phrase "Gospel Meeting" is not found in the New Testmane, this does not mean it is not of God's Word. The word "Gospel" means good news. It is a term that describes the good news of Jesus Christ coming to this world and dying on calvary's cross for the forgivesness of our sins.

Jesus preached the good news of His coming kingdom (Mark 4:23) and His apostles preached "the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God" (Mark 1;1; Acts 8:25). It is called "the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation" (Ephesians 1:13 cf; Colossians 1:8). In fact, Paul wrote "For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Romans 1;16).

The gospel must be preached and the gospel must be obeyed. A terrible eternal judgment will be given to those who "obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus" (2 Thessalonians 1:8). The Bible further indicates that we are called or invited to Christ through the gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:14). Jesus said, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation." (Mark 16:15).

Although we preach and study the gospel each and every week, several times throughout the year we invite a guest speaker and concentrate our efforts toward a special series of Bible lessons hoping to teach the gospel to those of our local community!.

What Happens At A Gospel Meeting?

We know that visiting an unfamiliar place can be quite stressful. So to help prepare you for what you might edxperience, we offer this brief description:
  • Our assembly is patterned after the simple gatherings of the early New Testament church.
  • Our services will last about an hour and time will primarily be spent in listening to the gospel lesson.
  • Services usually begin with a word of welcome from our local preacher.
  • There will be prayers and congregational singing (Ephesians 5;19; Colossians 3;16).
  • On Sunday, Christians will partake of the Lord's Supper, a memorial, commanded by Jesus, to commemorate his death until he returns (Matthew 26:26-30; Luke 22:16-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29; Acts 20:7). We do this every week.
  • The local saints also will take up a collection on Sunday to continue in the support of the gospel (1 Corinthians 16:1,2). You are not expected to give.
  • You will never be singled out or embarrassed in any way.
  • We hope you will bring your Bible so that you might read and study along with the speaker.
  • If you have any questions we will be happy to answer them or study them with you at your convenience.
  • We want you to be comfortable and feel welcomed! You will be our honored guest!
